Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1810 his father left him and his mother. Then, tragedy struck and his mother died of tuberculosis. These two events affected his writing greatly. Poe was adopted. When he got older he attended West Point military academy. Then he married his cousin who was only 13 years old. This marriage is very odd because it was his cousin and she was only 13 years old. He then began his writing career. He wrote The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat in 1843. He then wrote one of his most famous works The Raven in 1845. He died in Baltimore, Maryland, which he called his home, on October 7, 1849. Someone for sixty straight years paid homage to him by placing cognac and three roses on his grave. Poe was a very strange but interesting person. His literature will always be remembered.
